OVERVIEW OF WORLD WAR II
“World War II, also called the Second World War, was a conflict that involved virtually every part of the world during the years 1939–1945” (World War II, Encyclopedia Britannica). Causes for entering the war varied from country to country. Alliances such as the Axis Powers which consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan and the Allies, France, Great Britain, the United States, and the Soviet Union, disconnected the world as a whole. According to National Geographic, Adolf Hitler and his National Socialist (Nazi Party) “were rising to power in an economically and politically unstable Germany”. This effect rearmed the nation and Hitler signed strategic treaties with Italy and Japan to further his ambitions of world domination (World War II Timeline, National Geographic). The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941 initiated American involvement in World War II. For Americans, World War II began on December 7, 1941. But war had been going on for years in Europe and other parts of the world overseas (World War II Timeline, National Geographic). Three days later Germany and Italy declared war on the United States. "Over the next few years, the conflict would take more lives and destroy more land and property around the globe than any previous war” (World War II, History). World War II was a deadly war that almost lead to the extension of the Jews, as well as several other races through out Europe as a result of the efforts of Hitler. The Americans stepped in the war through every field one of those using efforts from sea and aircraft. Battleships were constructed to help take down the enemy from sea and had a lasting impression on the United States Navy. They helped protect larger ships during this time period and the use of fighter jets were crucial during battle. The war finally ended when the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima, Japan in August of 1945.
